Stallone prepares a new Rocky story and revisits the character’s Philadelphia origins

Before Sylvester Stallone talks about returning to Rocky Balboa, it is worth placing his latest announcements within the continuing life of the franchise: Creed remains on screen with Michael B. Jordan, while the story of the character’s beginnings is about to reach cinemas through Yo soy Rocky. The actor and creator of Rocky confirmed in an interview with TV Insider that he has written another installment and that he is exploring the possibility of going even further back, to the 1960s, although neither project has a confirmed production date.

A new chapter, written without a guaranteed destination

Stallone explained that the new script would explore Rocky’s life outside the ring, paying attention to the changing world around him and to a neighborhood that is no longer the same as it was. The premise fits the character’s trajectory beyond the boxing matches, because it proposes to observe what happens to Rocky and his surroundings while the protagonist continues evolving. The actor was also clear about the purpose of this first writing stage: he wrote the script for himself, without knowing whether it would eventually become a film. In that sense, the project is a work in progress presented with caution, not an announced installment with a fixed release schedule.

“He has written another chapter of the Rocky saga, and I think it would be a good opportunity to explore life outside the ring, how the world around him is changing and how his neighborhood is no longer what it was.”Sylvester Stallone

The possibility of a prequel is even more ambitious, since it would address the origins of the Italian American boxer and place the story in the United States of the 1960s. Stallone described that era as fascinating and linked it to major social, cultural and musical transformations. He did not present a completed story or a specific production plan; instead, he said that he has many ideas about how the characters’ paths crossed. The reference to the transformation of the United States provides a historical and thematic frame for the project, but the film’s plot, cast, budget and filming schedule remain undefined.

  • Rocky: the original film begins a franchise that has accumulated more than four decades of history.
  • Creed: Michael B. Jordan starred in the third installment of the spin-off and has confirmed his participation in a fourth.
  • Yo soy Rocky: the biographical film directed by Peter Farrelly is scheduled for release in Argentine cinemas on January 22, 2027.

The biographical film and the future of the saga

Yo soy Rocky, directed by Peter Farrelly, will focus on Stallone’s early years in Hollywood and on the creative and commercial process that led to the creation of Rocky Balboa. Its arrival offers a particular context for the actor’s new projects, because it revisits the moment when the character was being born as both a screen figure and a cinematic franchise. The biopic does not guarantee that either of Stallone’s new ideas will be produced, but it keeps the history of Rocky in the public conversation and gives the franchise a new immediate milestone.

For those who have followed the saga over the years, the combination is especially attractive: a possible new chapter about Rocky’s life outside boxing, a prequel set in the 1960s and a biographical film about the creation of Rocky itself. The three proposals work on different timelines and do not yet form a single confirmed project. What Stallone has confirmed is the existence of his script and his interest in exploring the character’s origins; what remains open is whether either story will reach the big screen and in what form.
